Fusion is a new technology used to weld (fuse) two optical fibers together. This process is called fusion splicing. The fiber ends are prepared, cleaved, and placed in alignment fixtures on the fusion splicer. At the press of a button, the fiber ends are heated with electrodes, brought together, and fused. In most cases used method of splicing as it provides for the lowest loss and least reflectance, as well as providing the strongest and most reliable joint between two fibers. So welding of two fiber optic by Fusion is the best way for fiber optic connection.
The goal is to fuse the two fibers together in such a way that light passing through the fibers is not scattered or reflected back by the splice, and so that the splice and the region surrounding it are almost as strong as the virgin fiber itself. The source of heat is usually an electric arc, but can also be a laser, or a gas flame, or a tungsten filament through which current is passed.
